The role of the JCR Women’s officer is to ensure that all members of our college feel safe and protected, as well as informed about gender-related issues at the college and uni level and beyond. As a member of the SU-Women’s Campaign, they represent the college at fortnightly Council meetings and vote on behalf of the Murray Edwards student body on matters pertaining to the welfare of women, non-binary people, and trans people affected by gender-based issues university-wide.
Moreover, it is their role to help inform and advise members of our community on matters such as nighttime safety, sexual health, and personal well-being through the provision of emergency sanitary and sexual health products in college (these can be found in the laundry room!), as well as being available to point you in the right direction to find further help when needed.
Another aspect of the women’s officer’s role is acting as the President of Medwards FemSoc, and selecting a committee. Our Feminist Society is open to those of all gender identities, and aims to not only host regular fun social events, collaborating with other colleges, but also to provide a platform for interesting and varied discussions, lead by members of the committee with a range of interests. Please follow our instagram account @medwardsfemsoc for updates on the societies upcoming events and goals, as well as informative content about all things feminism.
Finally, the women’s officer works together with the lgbt, welfare and trans and nb officers in the aim of fostering a loving, safe, and supportive environment for every member of our community within college.
Please get in contact with our current women’s officer Evie Hinchliffe (she/they eph33) to hear more about any of the above or even just for a chat.
