Hiya, I’m Alexis (they/them) and I’m the Disabled Students Officer for this year. My focus is on supporting disabled students, which means both getting you personal support you need and advocating on broader disability issues within college. We have a lot of resources you can access to get disability support during your time in Cambridge, and I am available to advocate on your behalf in getting what you need.
Some good starting points to look at are the DRC website (https://www.disability.admin.cam.ac.uk/), the UCS website for mental health support (https://www.counselling.cam.ac.uk/) and my short Disabilities handbook (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1e4QzYk7qkRjmNRRqLor8KF21UPLNb6DXW6ccn_0KrcU/edit?usp=sharing).
Your first port of call for Disability support during the year will be your Tutor, and if they can’t help you resolve your issues or if they’re not being very helpful, you should come to me. I’m also available to answer any questions you may have, so don’t feel like you have to wait to have issues with your Tutor before asking me for help. I am able to raise the issue to the Senior Tutor, Head of Wellbeing or potentially College Council depending on the severity and how easily we can get the situation handled. My email address is [email protected]
On the social end of things, the student union DSC (https://www.disabled.cusu.cam.ac.uk/) has several facebook groups and runs events throughout the year. I hope to be doing some joint socials with the other liberation officers over the next two terms, so keep an eye out for those.
