There is lots of equipment available for anyone in college to use in the Sports Cupboard, including rounders kits, bibs, cones, balls, squash rackets, tennis rackets and more! If anyone would like to use anything or get more information please get in touch with Izzy (mic36), the JCR Sports Officer.
In addition to the on-site gym, squash court and netball/tennis courts, the college has a range of different clubs for people of all interests and abilities. Throughout the year there are many inter-college tournaments. College sport tends to be less of a time commitment than University sports teams. Hopefully you will meet the various sports captains at the Medwards freshers’ fair.

Athletics
Everyone is welcomed, we aren’t serious! We compete in the intercollegiate Cuppers competition each year and were last years’ winners.
Boat Club (Rowing)
This is the largest college society, and part of the biggest group of people in Cambridge: ‘boaties’. All levels of commitment and experience are welcome.
Football
We merged with Girton last season – proving quite successful considering the team’s recent promotion to Division 2 and success in reaching the Cuppers Finals’. We train once a week on the pitches next door at St Edmunds College and league matches are usually on Saturday afternoons.
Hockey
We play matches most Sundays against other colleges and the team is open to all abilities. We have a lot of fun and do pretty well!
Lacrosse Club (Combined with Peterhouse and Fitzwilliam College)
Our mixed lacrosse team is joint with Peterhouse and Fitzwilliam colleges. We play very relaxed matches around once a week (usually on Sundays), all abilities are welcome
Netball
Netball at Medwards is a welcoming group covering all abilities, from seasoned pros to total beginners. We run a friendly training session every week, as well as putting two teams forward in college league matches and cuppers.
Rugby Club (Combined with Sidney Sussex and Girton)
While Medwards no longer has its own club, the University has various development teams which you can sign up to, whether you’re a beginner or an experienced player. If you have any questions, feel free to message Abi!
Swimming
We are a super relaxed and friendly team and all come together for the annual Swimming Cuppers. We had a particularly impressive performance this year, qualifying for three of the final events and putting in a strong performance in the 4 x 50m freestyle relay.
Tennis
The Medwards tennis club is a friendly and inclusive group for all standards, with the opportunity to play games both within college and with other colleges.
Ultimate Frisbee Club (Combined with Churchill)
Ultimate is a mixed team sport that welcomes people of all abilities. A lot of people who join have never properly thrown a frisbee before. It's great fun and friendly, and this year Churchill is joining with Murray Edwards!
Boat Club
This is the largest college society, and part of the biggest group of people in Cambridge: ‘boaties’. All levels of commitment and experience are welcome. Look out for the Boatie Tea Party in Freshers’ Week to learn more about the Boat Club (MECBC)
