What are societies?
The University and the Colleges provide student-run societies to suit everyone’s needs and interests.
University Societies:
The full list of registered University Societies can be found here: University societies
How do I join a society?
The best place to join University societies for the first time is the Societies Fair in October. At Parker's Piece for two days during Freshers' Week, you can join as many societies as you fancy. More information is available in the Welcome Pack.
But don’t despair if you happen to miss your favourite society then! Just go along to one of their events – most societies are very welcoming of new members at any time.

College Societies:
Medwards has loads of societies to get involved with: and more!
Film Soc shows films throughout term. It's free to come and there's lots of food available too! We show a mix of blockbusters, indie movies and art house films and suggestions are always welcome.
FemSoc, the Murray Edwards Feminist Society, is open to any member of the College who wishes to learn about and discuss issues pertaining to gender and feminism. We hold a fortnightly discussion group and frequently hold socials in college, providing friendly and respectful spaces to engage with feminism.
College Christian Union: CICCU is the Uni-wide Christian Union, a group of Christians from all backgrounds and denominations, made up of smaller College Groups. At Medwards we have a wonderful group, who meet twice a week, for a main Bible study and a shorter prayer breakfast. There is such a family feel in our group, and we love welcoming new people along, so please do not hesitate to contact us.
Murray Edwards Law Society: The Medwards Law Society is an active Law Society which organises a variety of events, such as mooting competitions, get-togethers with other Law students, Formal dinners, a garden party, and an annual law dinner with a guest speaker. Baroness Hale is the Honorary President of the Murray Edwards College Law Society and generally attends the annual dinner in person.
Groups and societies for other faiths are also active throughout the University, so make sure you head to the societies’ fair in Freshers’ Week to find out more about what they do.
