Sexual Health is incredibly important and part of my job as Welfare Officer is to make sure that you guys all know where you can get help and support should need it. Drop me a message if you need a pregnancy test (there should also be some in the laundry room but these tend to run out quickly), or if you just need a chat or some advice.
Below is a list of contacts and information you may find useful:
The Morning After Pill/Emergency Contraception
Where can you get it?
You can go to your GP. Just make an emergency appointment (phone them up). You’ll have to answer a few questions but shouldn’t be anything too invasive and then your doctor can give you a prescription you can take to any pharmacy (there’s one just past Aldi as well as in Boots and Superdrug in town), and get it for free.
You can also pay for it at any pharmacy, it costs around £25.
You can also go to the Lime Tree Clinic (http://www.icash.nhs.uk/where-to-go/lime-tree-clinic- cambridge) up on Mill Road where they have clinics. They have drop-in sessions and you can also book an appointment but there may be a wait.
For more information about the morning after pill you can have a look at the NHS website (http:// www.nhs.uk/Conditions/contraception-guide/pages/emergency-contraception.aspx)
STI Testing
It’s important to get regularly checked out if you’re sexually active. You can go to the Lime Tree Clinic for this or just have a chat with your GP and they can book you in. They have drop-in sessions and you can also book an appointment but there may be a wait.
Having an STI or getting checked out is nothing to be ashamed of!
Pregnancy Tests
Just drop me a message either on Facebook or email (aef52@cam.ac.uk or [email protected]) if you need a free pregnancy test; I’ll put one in your pidge in a discrete envelope.
Sexual Assault
Sadly, sexual assault is something that does happen to people. If it happens to you or to a friend then it is important to know where to get help and support. I can point you in the direction of useful places and can support you in my role as Welfare Officer. It may also be useful for you to contact your tutor and/or the Senior Tutor who have training in regard to this and will be able to point you in the right direction. It is so important to look after yourself and be kind to yourself. Here are some useful links and resources:
Cambridge Rape Crisis provides a phoneline twice a week which offers a confidential service of support and information provided over the telephone.
National Rape Crisis have a Freephone 0808 802 9999, 12 noon - 2.30pm and 7 - 9.30pm every day of the year
Victim Support provide a confidential phoneline for support and information on any crime. The NHS also provides information and advice on help and support after sexual assault
In Cambridge, Centre 33 is an advice centre that you can drop into without appointment. They offer counselling and support to survivors of sexual assault and rape.
The Women’s Campaign set up Cambridge Speaks Out which is a testimonial website for survivors of sexual assault and rape. Survivors are often unable to speak out about what has happened to them. This site is open to all Cambridge UK residents who want to speak out about what has happened to them.
If you survived sexual assault as a child and want to talk about it, Choices Counselling in Cambridge specialise in this. Call them on 01223 358149

SEXUAL HEALTH SUPPLIES
WELFARE SUPPLIES
There is a box in the laundry room which I will regularly refill with condoms, pregnancy tests and dental dams. If these run out then just contact me and I will restock it and give you the supplies you need.
These condoms should be used in EMERGENCIES ONLY. They are free for students but please don’t take all of them at once this prevents those who DO need them as an unplanned one-off from having access to them. Do not misinterpret this, we DO of course want you to use them; that’s what they’re there for. If you really want condoms cheaply, I can put some in your pigeon hole.
YOUR PIGEONHOLE
Clearly, not everyone wants to stroll into my room or email me asking for condoms – that’s fine, we all like our privacy. So instead, we are now giving you the option to get them delivered to your pigeonhole. So, if you want any sexual health supplies, just send me a message using this anonymous contact form, with your pigeon hole number and what you want, and I can drop it off for you easy-peasy!
CUSU (i.e. free) supplies are as follows:
Condoms
Non Latex Condoms
Femidoms
Lubricant Sachets
Dental Dams
Pregnancy tests
Also I can give out attack alarms so do get in touch if you would like one of those.
